Haunted Homecoming 2024 was filled with zombies, ghosts, witches, and vampires, but the fashion was far from scary. From glittery heels to colorful ties, Woodgrove students dressed their best to participate in all of their homecoming festivities.
Freshman Cross Country runner Molly Den Herder wore a red satin dress from Amazon for her first homecoming. “I wanted a modest dress, something that I would be comfortable in but also feel beautiful in,” Den Herder remarked.
Sophomore Varsity Cheerleader Nick Bonette, wanting to go for a cute and classy look, wore a suit from Custom Suits Galleria. His favorite part about getting ready was seeing the various aspects of his look come together. “When I put everything together, the hair, the outfit, the makeup—it just all tied so well together,” Bonette shared.
Junior Mai Sylvester, inspired by her love of sparkles, wore a gold dress from Lucy In The Sky. “My favorite part of getting ready is always doing my hair. I love coordinating it with my outfit to tie everything together,” Sylvester stated.
Sophomore Rafe Garrett wanted to incorporate his day to day style into his homecoming outfit. He wore his Adidas Campuses, along with a black suit and pink tie. “My favorite part about getting ready was wearing my dad’s pants, because they were baggy and my style,” Garrett explained.
Varsity Gymnast Sophomore Hadley Ayotte sported a black dress borrowed from her cousin. “My favorite part of choosing my dress was having a fashion show with her like we would do when we were little,” Ayotte reminisced.
Sophomore Basketball player Kynza Ingram, in a pink Windsor dress, based her look off of her pink Jordans. “My favorite part of my look was actually wearing my hair curly and finding my shoes because my best friend works at DSW and I saw her there,” Ingram explained.
Sophomore Walker Kennedy sported a black suit and a pink tie. “I enjoyed the moment creating more memories with my friends, and I really enjoyed the venue,” Kennedy shared.
Sophomore Genesis Herrera, wearing a dark pink dress from Windsor, wanted a dress that suited her personality. “My favorite part about picking an outfit was trying on different dresses and overall just getting ready with my best friends,” Herrera shared.
Pageant girls Caty Jewell and Madyson Blizzard are seniors who brought unique styles to their final high school homecoming this year.
Caty Jewell, the winner of the 2024 Teen Miss Apple Blossom Pageant, wore a white dress paired with neutral heels to match. Jewell had several options for her last homecoming, and made her dress decision the morning of the event, explaining, “My mom picked this dress for me for another event, but I decided to wear it for my senior homecoming.”
Madyson Blizzard, a semi-finalist in the Miss Teen Virginia USA 2024 Pageant, drew inspiration for her homecoming look from “Megan Fox and Cinderella, with a classy vibe.” Her favorite part of dressing up this year was seeing her friends’ outfits all come together along with her own, while “making memories together and looking bougie doing it.”
Christopher Shuffleton, a heavily involved member of the fine arts community, planned his homecoming look within the same time he was prepping for his role in the fall play, The Scarlet Letter. Shuffleton coordinated with his friend Junior Zoe Carter, describing, “My inspiration was from my friend Zoe’s outfit because we match perfectly. My favorite part was hanging out with Zoe before the dance.”
Senior Rory Fricano has been the Costume Mistress for The Grove Theater’s various productions since her sophomore year. This experienced fashion coordinator crafted her look by purchasing items from stores in Tysons Corner and using other items from previous dances. “My inspiration was Valentine’s Day & Cupid,” Fricano explained. She was especially excited for her final homecoming, because of the theme: “My class theme was vampires, so red called me. In past years, I have not connected with the theme as much, so it was fun to take inspiration from it this year.”
Senior Connor Felmey captured his last homecoming outfit in a photo with his younger brother Cole Felmey, a future Wolverine. He wore a slim fit navy blue suit with a simple white collared shirt and white shoes to match.
Varsity Swimmer Senior Zoe Roberts-Shaw wore a hot pink off the shoulder dress with silver jewelry. She posed in a photo with her friend Senior Gymnast Jadyn Thomas, who wore a green dress with a dark floral pattern.
