Woodgrove has continued honoring the legacy of Colette Baine, class of 2023, even after graduation. Over the last year, more than $20,000 has been raised by the Woodgrove High School community and donated to The Epilepsy Foundation in her honor.
The Epilepsy Foundation has hundreds of events nationwide every year to promote awareness, research, and advocacy. Some of these events are in our own backyard, including the annual Walk To End Epilepsy, Paint a Pumpkin Purple, and Woodgrove athletic events. The Walk To End Epilepsy takes place in cities around the country, but our closest one is in Washington DC. Team Colette 13 participated last May, which raised a total of $5,645 for the Foundation. Paint a Pumpkin Purple is an event coming to the Western Loudoun community this fall. This project was started by Ron Lamontagne. His goal was to paint a regular fall pumpkin purple, and then raise epilepsy awareness when the color was questioned. Community members are encouraged to paint fall pumpkins in all shades of purple and proudly display them on their porch.
Various Wolverine athletic events have also honored Baine. Creating an annual tradition, football and basketball host “Purple Out” games in the current and upcoming seasons. Other teams such as soccer, field hockey and lacrosse all wear purple to promote epilepsy awareness
