Super Bowl LIX made history with this game. It is the ending of another season of football, and it ended with the most-watched sporting event in the United States. Mr. Derek Hughes, an Eagles fan, said the Super Bowl is “the greatest sports contest that unites the country, and it should be a holiday.” The game itself was shocking. The Philadelphia Eagles flat out came to play. Despite the doubts, criticisms, and challenges that fans and players had gone through, in the end, the Philadelphia Eagles came out victorious and cemented themselves in NFL history as one of the most talented teams to ever win the Super Bowl.
The Philadelphia Eagles are not the heroes the NFL expected to save us from the Chiefs at the start of the season. However, the game never felt close. Ms. Sam Newbold said, “The Eagles crushed the Chiefs, and it was amazing.” The game showed the country the Eagles were one of the best teams in the league, which they showed all season. But too many fans did not expect this outcome of a blowout win over the back-to-back Super Bowl Champions.
This game would not have been as big of a victory without Super Bowl MVP quarterback, Jalen Hurts. He finished with 17 completions of 22 attempts, 221 yards, two touchdowns and one interception—not bad for a quarterback playing a top 10 Chiefs defense in a Super Bowl. Ms. Tammy Pyle said, “People have been doubting him for a couple years now, and he’s had some lapses but, boy, in this Super Bowl game, he is just incredible.” In the past, Nick Siriani has been criticized for his arrogant game management, and some call him a clown. But during the game, it was clear he was out-coaching Andy Read, and he had seemed to plan very well how to win the game. But if something had to get the lion’s share of this Super Bowl win, it is the Eagles defense.
Vic Fangio called a masterful game plan, sacking Mahomes Six times, forcing two interceptions (one for a pick six) and one forced fumble.“They had six sacks, which was almost a record,” Tammy Pyle said. “One more to tie the record for most sacks in Super Bowl and, at the end of the game, they didn’t even have their starting lineup in, but there’s no question that their front four were just incredible.” Philadelphia out-gained Kansas City by over 70 yards in total offense; they had 21 first downs compared to Kansas City’s 12, and the Eagles had only one turnover compared to three by Kansas City.
This is the Eagles’ second Super Bowl win in team history, with their first coming 2017-2018 season where they beat the New England Patriots 41-33. The two games were very different. Mr. Steve Pyle stated, “I waited 35 years for the first Super Bowl, which is a long time. The second one has been a mini dynasty for the past seven years, but the first one was great to finally experience it. The second one kind of spoils you.” Tammy Pyle added, “The first one is a sigh of relief that we finally did it after all this time, while the second one was more fun, because it was a blow out from the 2nd quarter on. I was enjoying it, and it solidified their greatness.”
In terms of how it would be remembered, most people agree the game, halftime show and commercials were all duds, but most analysts will remember the 2024 Eagles as one of the best teams ever assembled. As for how Eagles fans will remember this season, Tammy Pyle stated, “It was just a total team effort…I think that’s how they’ll remember about the 2024 Eagles. It was a total team effort, and I just feel like all season long, I feel like they were the best team out there.” As another NFL season comes to a close and the long and brutal eight months of no football begins, Eagles fans can cherish the offseason more with their second Super Bowl.
