Since Labor Day of the 2023-2024 school year, there has been a large section of the 600 hall blocked off due to construction. Students have adjusted to the fact that construction has taken over the walls and even caused the floors to be covered with protection, but discussions rarely break out about what is going on inside the covering. “Within this blocked off space, there are four single-use, floor to ceiling, unisex restrooms being built, which will be available to both staff and students,” says Woodgrove Principal, Dr. William Shipp. The purpose of this project is to adjust to the needs of various students who prefer more privacy than what the larger public restrooms have to offer.

This is a Loudoun County Public Schools project, and Woodgrove is one of several pilot secondary schools to undergo this type of construction. Other schools include Heritage, Dominion, and Loudoun Valley. When asked about the construction completion date, Shipp stated, “Hopefully sooner rather than later, but the tentative date is in December.” This project has already made quite the impact on the 600 hallway from construction alone, and its permanent impact will be made evident upon its completion this coming winter.
