When a person reads a book, their imagination creates a beautiful story inside of their head, and sometimes a director will turn the images created in the reader’s mind into a movie. With the recent revitalization of reading across social media platforms, there has also been an upspike in book to film adaptations in movie theaters and across streaming platforms.
In May of 2020, Disney Plus announced that they would be making a new TV show based off of the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series. Rick Riordan, the author of the books, is the executive producer for the new series. Season one of the show will follow the plot line of the first book in the series The Lightning Thief, which follows Percy Jackson as he discovers his godly heritage and is sent on his first quest. Percy Jackson and the Olympians will be airing its first episode on Disney Plus on December 20, 2023.
The prequel to The Hunger Games series by Suzanne Collins, The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, will be airing in movie theaters on November 17, 2023. The newest adventure to take place in the world of Panem, The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes will follow a young Coriolanus Snow and Lucy Grey Baird. The movie stars Rachel Zegler as Lucy Grey and Tom Bylth as Coriolanus Snow through their journey of trying to survive the tenth annual Hunger Games. Lucy, a tribute for District 12, must work with her mentor Snow to ensure that she survives the Hunger Games, while Snow strives to bring back prestige to his family name.
Netflix recently released season two of the show Heartstopper. The beloved graphic novel series follows Charlie and Nick as they go through their secondary school years at Truham Grammar School for Boys. The four book series, with the fifth coming out in mid December, follows the two boys through love, friendship, and family relationships. Season three of Heartstopper has already been confirmed by Netflix, and fans are excited to see Nick and Charlie’s relationship grow.
Many have grown up with these characters and seeing them on the big screen reawakens the love once held for them. With so many great adaptations coming out soon, there is no telling which adored characters will come to the big screen next.
