Podcasting has taken a huge uprise over the past five years and even more so since the COVID pandemic. Podcasts are easily accessible, you can listen to them on your schedule, and they cover more niche topics. Due to the popularity of podcasting, today, listeners have a wide selection to choose from.
To align with the sudden popularity, Woodgrove has a selection of their own podcasts that inform people about what is going on in Woodgrove and in society. Talk of the Wild showcases current Woodgrove seniors who share amazing stories and their interests after high school. Recent guests on the podcast have included golf athlete Noah Ubial and state competitor, wrestler Austen Watson, on their show.
The Woodgrove Cut features two insights in arts and entertainment in today’s society. They discuss book, movie, and entertainment reviews. “The reason why I started the podcast is because I wanted to bring something that was engaging and fun for students to enjoy.” shared junior Jillian Lewis, co-host of The Woodgrove Cut podcast.
Dubgrove Sports does a deep dive into the Woodgrove sports world, what has been accomplished in each sport, and expectations moving into the future. Dubgrove Sports has also had Miami Hurricanes track commit, Prescott Noll, interviewed on the podcast.
Listening to podcasts is easy. However, doing podcasts has its set of challenges and many learning curves along the way. Junior and co-host of The Woodgrove Cut, Iza Piatkowski shares, “Doing the podcast has taught me how to use new software on editing and the process of reviewing topics. Another thing is the ability to keep conversations going and entertaining.”
Despite the challenges the podcasters face, podcasting is a great way for Woodgrove students to create their own personal platform and cultivate a loyal high school community. Listener insights have shown full support of these podcasts. Having this selection of podcasts allows the student podcasters to showcase their talents in new ways. It truly shows how strong these students’ communication skills are.
