This spring, The Grove Theater is presenting an iconic, timeless musical, Grease. Set in the 1950’s, it follows the Pink Ladies and the T-Birds through friendships and teenage life. The musical is based on the short novel that was written around “greasers” and is set in Northwest Chicago. A movie adaptation of Grease received a rating of 7.2 on IMDb, and is rated at 78 percent on Rotten Tomatoes. Now eager fans have the chance to perform it for their friends and family.
The audition process sometimes sounds intimidating or unfamiliar, if they have never done one before. Auditions consist of filling out an application, performing part of a song that is hand selected by Theater Director Mrs. Beverly Pruzina and Choir Director Mrs. Jessica Morgan. Auditionees will also learn and perform a short dance number. General advice from students who have already auditioned before say to: keep an open mind when going out for certain roles, be prepared with music, give it your all, and have fun!
To senior Rachel Pruzina, who has grown up with theater her whole life, auditions for Grease mean a lot to her. “I find that at first auditions can seem scary, but sometimes it’s calming to me knowing that everyone else is going through the same process.” Students who were previously involved in theater are planning on auditioning or taking up a role for Grease, as this might be the last production they are involved in. Senior Noah Ubial was involved in Music Man during his eighth grade year at Harmony Middle School. “I am really excited, I love [the opportunity] to audition for Grease.”
Auditions for Grease will take place January 17th and 18th directly after school. More information can be found on the board outside of the Black Box or by emailing Mrs. Pruzina for more information. Support Woodgrove Theater students by seeing the shows, May 1st to 4th.
