During the winter months it can be hard to find a good book to read as the winter blues set in. The cold weather makes the air frigid to the bone, but the best cure is curling up around the fireplace with a warm blanket and a good book.

The one problem is that Freya hates humans and wants nothing to do with them, until she reaps her first fallen soldier who has unfinished business in the human world. The book is perfect for readers looking for a found family theme, with lots of adventure, and no romance.
Winter is the home of the main characters in Snow Like Ashes by Sara Raasch. The book follows Meira, an orphaned girl who ran away with the other refugee’s during Spring’s attack on Winter. There is a complex magic system within the book, in which eight kingdoms’ magic can be harnessed by a Queen or King through a royal conduct connected to blood lines. Snow Like Ashes presents eight Winterian refugees as they try to take back their land from the King of Spring, while trying to find their place within the court, and within their home. The fast paced fantasy read will enthrall anyone who appreciates a slow burn romance mixed with forbidden love and anticipation as to whether or not the season of Winter can be saved or if it will just be melted into nothing.
For a classic winter book, The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis, can bring back nostalgia to all readers. It follows four siblings, as the youngest Lucy finds a wardrobe that leads her to the snowy land of Narnia, which is stuck in an eternal winter. Lucy and her siblings work together to take down the icy witch, who has taken over Narnia, which has lost its original jubilance. With seven books in the series, The Chronicles of Narnia, might supply reading for the rest of winter.
Now that winter is fully upon us and snow days have arrived, it is the perfect time to pick up a wintery book and read in front of the fireplace.
