A New Era of Wolverine Volleyball
The 2022-2023 Woodgrove Varsity Volleyball team has newfound success due to the players, coaching, and environment of the program. The team puts an emphasis on culture to help promote winning.
The varsity and junior varsity teams both have winning records of 13-6 and 14-5 respectively. The freshman team is also experiencing a winning record of 9-8. The program has one regular season game left and is currently ranked 3rd in the Potomac District. They hope to win, setting them up with momentum to make it far into the playoffs.
Junior Captain Lilly Soska says, “We have an insane amount of talent
from our Seniors this year. In addition, each teammate works together really well and our chemistry is great.” Soska explains how training in the off-season and doing private lessons is a necessity to be able to compete at the varsity level.
Head Coach Tim Rocket says that his favorite part of the program is “watching players develop year to year.” He attributes this year’s success to the coachable and competitive players in the program. Rocket also explains how players need to act like they want to be there once they make the team, which will be a contributing factor to next year’s roster.
