Wondering what the hottest, most-recommended book currently is on the internet, Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarros. Yarros has set up a beautiful world where there are four quadrants that people can go into: Infantry, Healers, Scribes, and Riders Quadrants. The book follows Violet who has always dreamed of going into the Scribes Quadrant to follow in her fathers footsteps, but her mother has other plans. Once Violet enters the Riders Quadrant, she makes friends and enemies, and while being reacquainted with an old friend, she realizes where others’ priorities lie, and they are not with her. Throughout the book the reader learns that politically and within the Rider’s Quadrant things are not what they seem, and some of the rules set into place are meant to be adjusted.

The best part of the book was watching Violet go on a journey of self growth, throughout the entirety of the book. Violet struggles with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS), which affects tissues in the body making joints overlay flexible and blood vessels breaking and bruising common. Throughout the book there are many discussions about Violet’s struggles with getting injured easily and healing extremely slowly even though she must defend herself everyday. This does not slow Violet down though, as she strives to fight to the best of her ability and think of out of the box ways to solve her problems.

Violet’s love interest, Xaden Riorson is an extremely complex character. In the beginning the reader doesn’t know much about Xaden except he hates Violet and her family. At the beginning of the book nobody really likes Xaden, but the more readers learn about Xaden the more they will learn to respect and like him.

Fourth Wing is a five star read if for those who want great world building, complex characters, and those who want to be so hooked they can’t put the book down, even when your teacher tells you too. For those who have already read Fourth Wing and enjoyed it, the second book Iron Flame is now out and being sold at bookstores. Iron Flame continues to follow Violet as she enters her second year at Basgiath War College, with new enemies and old foes trying to break her, Violet will have to fight to survive.
